I see the struggles between chefs and owners all the time.
Chefs are trying to protect quality, consistency, and the food they put their name on.
Owners are trying to protect margins, control costs, and keep the business moving in the right direction.
The disconnect usually happens when both sides are right — but nobody is communicating clearly.
That’s where strong systems matter.
Ordering, inventory, menu costing, waste tracking, prep levels, and vendor control shouldn’t feel personal. They should be part of the operation.
When the chef and owner are working from the same information, the conversation changes from blame to strategy.
Restaurants don’t need more tension.
They need structure.
