As AI reshapes hospitality, will it make hospitality more or less human?

The attached Hospitality Net article makes a sharp point for hotel, travel, restaurant, casino, and platform leaders: Technology should support the human vocation of hospitality, not quietly replace it. That means AI cannot be evaluated only through cost savings, speed, or labor reduction. Leaders need to ask harder governance questions: Are automation tools freeing workers for higher-value human service — or eliminating pathways into work? Are scheduling and performance systems supporting employees — or turning them into machine-managed labor units? Are guest data, loyalty algorithms, dynamic pricing, and personalization practices transparent and contestable — or quietly extracting value from guests without meaningful trust? Are technology and labor suppliers screened for forced labor, exploitative data-labeling, unsafe mining, or trafficking-linked platform abuse?

Hospitality is built on welcome, presence, attentiveness, and care. A kiosk can process a check-in. An algorithm can optimize a rate. A chatbot can answer a question.

But the moments that create loyalty, safety, dignity, and trust remain deeply human.

The strategic takeaway: AI adoption in hospitality should be governed through a human-centered operating model — one that protects workers, strengthens guest trust, audits algorithmic decisions, scrutinizes supply chains, and preserves human encounter where it matters most.

Efficiency…
