POS ecosystems have a pretty big AI opportunity sitting in front of them: Help venues use their own data more easily.
I mean safe, permissioned access that lets a restaurant connect the tools it trusts. Because the benefit for venues could be huge.
Imagine a restaurant being able to connect their POS to a LLM or agent of their choice.
They could ask proper questions of their own business:
- Which menu items are selling well but slowing the kitchen down?
- What changed after we updated pricing?
- Where are we seeing repeat customer behaviour that we’re not acting on?
- Can you add a new menu item for me across all locations in my POS and Online Ordering and also update my Google My Business.
Or they could go one step further and vibe-code a dashboard or connect a new ordering or loyalty channel. Nothing massive. Nothing that needs to become a full product, Just a useful little tool for the way that restaurant runs.
That’s really exciting for restaurants!
The next wave of restaurant tech is going to involve more AI, loyalty, marketplaces, ordering, analytics, and agents.
All of it needs clean access to getting menu, order, payment and customer data in and out of the POS.
Hospo POS platforms have a harder job than most B2B SaaS products. A bad integration can really mess with live orders, payments, prep times, and the flow of service.
So yes, there needs to be guardrails.
But there’s a big gap between “this needs to be safe” and “the operator has limited ability to…
