AI in restaurants needs less hype and more operational honesty. Because the real question is not….. Should we use AI?
The better question is…..Where is the operation losing time, clarity, consistency, or margin?
That is where AI becomes useful. o Not as a replacement for hospitality. o Not as a shortcut for weak standards. o Not as another dashboard nobody uses.
But as a tool that helps operators see faster and act earlier. § Better forecasting. § Cleaner labour planning. § Sharper stock control. § Quicker menu analysis. § Earlier visibility on waste, sales patterns, and site performance.
This has value. But only if the business knows what good looks like first. AI cannot taste the food. It cannot read the room. It cannot coach a manager through a difficult shift. It cannot build team trust or protect service culture.
That still belongs to your people
So before adding another tool, ask yourself and your team • What decision will this improve? • What admin will this remove? • What behaviour will this support? • What noise might this create? • How will we measure whether it is working?
AI should give operators more time to lead, not less. Where do you think AI can make the biggest difference in restaurant operations?
Progress starts with asking better operational questions. If you need support or would like to discuss this further, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
