A few months ago, if someone had told me I would build a complete AI-powered restaurant automation system with payment integration, multiple workflows, and real-time customer interaction… I probably would have doubted them.
Today, I built one.
As part of my capstone project, I worked on a restaurant automation system designed to solve a real operational problem: restaurant staff being too busy in the kitchen to constantly answer customer calls.
But beyond the group project, I challenged myself to build my own fully working version from scratch.
The system includes:
• A voice AI agent that handles customer calls for orders and reservations • A main automation workflow that captures conversations, extracts customer data, structures it into JSON, logs records, sends confirmation emails, and notifies the kitchen • A payment workflow integrated with Flutterwave to generate and verify payment links automatically • A Telegram inline callback workflow that updates order statuses in real time • Automated thank-you emails with feedback collection
What excites me the most is not just building it… but understanding how to think through systems, user experience, workflow optimization, and automation architecture.
One thing this project taught me is that workflows don’t always have to be bulky. Sometimes the best solution is the simplest one.
